While The Mandalorian was by far one of the greatest shows ever to grace Disney+ since its launch, many could point out that it was missing a proper lightsaber fight scene – one of the highlight pillars of any Star Wars show.
And despite only getting that one scene involving a darksaber, there was not much else for many swashbuckling-hungry fans. As it turns out, actor Giancarlo Esposito confirms that such a bone will be thrown to fans come Season 2 of The Mandalorian.
At the recent FAN EXPO Vancouver earlier this month, Esposito, who plays the darksaber-wielding Imperial loyalist Moff Gideon, went on record to confirm that a “major, epic” lightsaber fight scene will be taking place in Season 2, having been part of the production last year
“The prop guys are wondering about me because I was in a bit of a commotion and a bit of a struggle with someone else, which I’m hoping you will enjoy when you see it,” said an excited Esposito during the panel (via ComicBook). “Major, major, epic, epic lightsaber action happening on this show, and I should mention that I’m the only character in this first season who was able to be honored with having that lightsaber. So it feels wonderful.”
As we remember, the last episode of The Mandalorian Season 1 saw Moff Gideon carve his way out of his crashed TIE Fighter using his darksaber, flashing the ancient blade in the sunlight as he stood over the wreckage. No doubt the eccentric villain will be out for Mando’s blood in Season 2.
But the question then is, who then will fight Gideon one-on-one in lightsaber combat? The former Breaking Bad star didn’t touch on that, though.
Perhaps the only way to find out is when The Mandalorian Season 2 premieres sometime in October 2020 on Disney+.
