Marvel’s Thunderbolts is undergoing another cast shake-up. Following the departure of Steven Yeun, Geraldine Viswanathan is now set to replace Ayo Edebiri in an undisclosed role. This change comes a few days after it was reported that Lewis Pullman might step in for Yeun, indicating a period of flux in the movie’s lineup.
Edebiri, known for her Emmy-winning role in FX’s The Bear, had to exit Thunderbolts due to conflicting schedules, according to Deadline. The superhero film, directed by Jake Schreier, has experienced delays resulting from the writers and actors strikes in 2023. Its release has been pushed back to 25 July 2025.
Viswanathan, the breakout star of 2018’s Blockers, is gaining momentum in Hollywood. She was recently seen in Apple TV’s The Beanie Bubble and is set to appear in Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls. Additionally, she will co-star with Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video comedy You’re Cordially Invited.
The cast of Thunderbolts is an ensemble of Marvel’s intriguing characters, including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.
Marvel’s Thunderbolts opens in cinemas on 25 July 2025.
