What? A VR game based on Groundhog Day?
As it turns out, there is such a game, and it was revealed at Gamescom 2019. The talented devs at MWM Immersive have cranked out a promising looking title, Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son, in homage to the iconic 1993 movie starring Bill Murray as Phil Connors.
But instead of Phil Connors, you’ll be playing as his son, Phil Connors Jr., who also happens to be stricken with the curse of Groundhog Day. In many ways, this is a sequel to the original movie, even if Bill Murray isn’t in it.
The game takes you once more to the quaint little town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and once more we awake to the iconic 6:00am timing on the day before Groundhog Day. And as a VR game should be, you’ll be directly controlling the movement and actions of Phil Connors Jr., interacting with family members, friends and the rest of the Punxsutawney folk as you navigate the time loop and “learn valuable lessons about life, love and family”.
Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son will launch digitally on September 17 on PSVR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive. It will be available for pre-order today, August 20, on the PlayStation Store, Oculus Store, Viveport, and Steam for £24.99 / U$29.99 / €29.99.

Forgive him in advance if he suddenly blurts out terms such as “Mind Flayer” and “Magic Missile”, because never once does he stop thinking about his next Dungeons & Dragons game.
