From Pocket Monsters To Robots In Disguise: Niantic Is Transforming Pokémon GO Into Transformers: Heavy Metal

After the lackluster launch of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Niantic has found the next IP to reskin the immensely popular AR game Pokémon GO.

Titled Transformers: Heavy Metal, here’s a brief description of the game:

“In Transformers: Heavy Metal, players will join the Guardian Network, a group of humans who have banded together with the Autobots in a war against the Decepticons. As a Guardian, players will uncover hidden regions across Earth to find resources and battle Decepticons in turn-based battles, either solo or with friends.”

From these screenshots, it certainly looks like Pokémon GO of old reskinned. We’re not quite sure if kids from the 80s might be attracted to this prospect.

While it does look like Bumblebee is front and centre of this initiative, we do hope that discovering new Autobots would involve finding a random trailer out in the open, reviving it with energon and adding Optimus Prime to the collection.

Beta testing for Transformers: Heavy Metal starts in June 2021 with a select group of players in New Zealand.

If anything Hasbro has been putting plenty of effort into Transformers with a whole slew of toy releases in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of the animated movie
