Fraggle Rock Makes Surprise Comeback On Apple TV+

The legacy of classic Jim Henson series Fraggle Rock continues to be long-lived for good reason: not only was it a high-energy, feel-good musical romp, but it also managed to handle serious issues like prejudice, social conflict, and personal identity in an accessible, delicate manner. More than 30 years down the road, the puppet television show will be making a surprise comeback, courtesy of Apple TV+.

Titled Fraggle Rock: Rock On!, the new iteration is set to span across a host of three- to five-minutes episodes, which premiere for free every Tuesday. The pilot episode has already gone live on the streaming service, bringing back the likes of Gobo, Red, Boober, Mokey, Wembley, and Uncle Travelling Matt as new Doozertubes are delivered to their cave. It then ends with the Fraggles singing along to a favourite song, “Shine On, Shine On Me”.

To comply with the social distancing guidelines in the US, the short-form episodes have all been shot on iPhone 11 from the homes of the production team and individual artists across the state.

With most of the population confined to their homes, there’s no better time to expose the younger generation to the golden classic that’s Fraggle Rock, but if you’re looking for shows of longer length, there are some temporarily free ones up on the app as well.
