Footage From George Lucas’ Scrapped Star Wars: Underworld TV Series Leaked

Disney and Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian was all the rage in 2019. It was one of the most in-demand TV series in the world and with a second season coming sometime this year, it got us thinking about all the other Star Wars TV series that might be coming up such as the Obi-Wan series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 and more.

But before Disney got involved in the Star Wars franchise, George Lucas had plans for his own TV series in 2005. The series was called Star Wars: Underworld and test footage of it has been making rounds online.

The footage featured a mysterious woman clad in a robe arriving the streets of Couscant and finding plans for an Imperial Star Destroyer. Once she found the plans, she heads to a small weapons store to try to buy a ship. A group of stormtroopers notice her and head into the store. And where there are stormtroopers, there are shootouts. It’s not the best shootout we’ve seen in the Star Wars universe, but for test footage, it is pretty impressive.

Lucas had to scrap Star Wars: Underworld because it was too expensive to make.

“Right now, it looks like the Star Wars features,” said Lucas. “But we have to figure out a way to make it at about a tenth of the cost of the features because it’s television.”
