First Look — Singapore Actor Lim Kay Siu As Gyatso In Netflix’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’

You might see a familiar face when you watch Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender series, namely Phua Chu Kang actor Lim Kay Siu, who plays air temple monk and Aang’s former mentor Gyatso in the upcoming live-action adaptation.

The Singaporean actor is most known for his role in Night Watch, and has starred in several local films including Army Daze and Kallang Roar the Movie. The show has also cast Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Elizabeth Yu as Azula, Dallas Liu as Zuko, and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh.

Avatar: The Last Airbender’s live-action Gyatso acts like a father figure to Aang in a teaser trailer for the series, telling him that he is special, and gives him a heartwarming pep talk. This all of course, takes place a hundred years before the beginning of the show’s events, and before the Fire Nation attacks, so we will likely see him in flashbacks.
