Ewan McGregor, celebrated for his portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, has expressed his hope for reprising his iconic role in future projects. Following his recent appearance in the Disney+ series titled after his character, McGregor is optimistic about the potential for more stories, despite no official confirmation of a second season or other related projects.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which debuted on Disney+ in 2022, offered fans a glimpse into the Jedi Master’s life between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. While the series was generally well-received, it didn’t quite reach the pop culture phenomenon status of Andor or The Mandalorian. However, given the enduring popularity of McGregor’s portrayal and the character’s rich backstory, the actor believes there are more tales to be told.
During a recent interview with Variety, which coincided with his addition to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, McGregor shared his enthusiasm for continuing the saga. His full comment is as follows:
“I loved more than anything, getting to know Alec Guinness’ work because I was playing him as a young man. Even now with the series, that’s my personal challenge — if a take feels a bit like him, I’m happy. I really do hope we get a chance to do another one. Between where we ended off in the seires and when Alex Guinness comes on the screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”
Hayden Christensen, who reprised his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and appeared in Ahsoka, also supports the idea of more adventures with McGregor’s Obi-Wan. Christensen expressed a keen interest in further collaborations, “If it means that I got to do more with Ewan, then that’s a no-brainer, but I really hope that he continues with the character. Just as a fan, it’s so exciting to get to watch him play Obi-Wan — he’s just so good at it.”
Despite the absence of official plans for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 or other projects featuring McGregor, the actor’s willingness to explore further dimensions of his character keeps hopes alive for fans. The narrative possibilities for Obi-Wan remain vast, given the 19-year timeline between the prequels and the original series that has yet to be fully explored.
The Star Wars franchise continues to expand on Disney+, with recent series like The Acolyte, although it was cancelled after one season. Upcoming projects include Skeleton Crew, starring Jude Law, and the highly anticipated second season of Andor, further enriching the Star Wars universe with new stories and characters.
As McGregor awaits potential future developments, his passion for the role and the universe suggests that the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi may yet have new chapters, whether through additional series instalments or perhaps even a return to the big screen.
