To mark the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing have announced Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, the first-ever crossover between the two legendary franchises. Launching in January 2027, the five-issue limited series is written by pop culture icon Kevin Smith and illustrated by Uncanny X-Men (2024) superstar David Marquez.
Marvel first published Star Wars comics in 1977, the same year A New Hope reshaped pop culture. Now, five decades later, the two worlds will finally collide on the page. For the first time, heroes and villains from both universes will share the same story. The Avengers, Spider-Man, and more will join forces with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, while Doctor Doom aligns himself with Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire.
The story itself promises a reality-shattering twist. A spell gone wrong allows Marvel’s heroes to witness the events of A New Hope unfolding on Earth-616. What could have been a narrative hurdle instead becomes an epic crossover, blending the mythologies of two of the most influential franchises in pop culture.
Series writer Kevin Smith described the crossover as a personal milestone: “Back in the early ‘80s, I had a subscription to Marvel’s Star Wars comics. And as fun as it was to follow the adventures of Luke, Leia and Han, I always wished that Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could cross over into their cinematic saga. So when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand! I’m ecstatic to be writing Hope Assembles for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars!”

With the Falcon and the Quinjet flying side by side, this crossover isn’t just a comic, it’s a celebration of 50 years of storytelling. Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles #1 arrives at comic shops in January 2027. Fans can also redeem digital copies via the Marvel Unlimited app for iOS and Android.
