Though there may be little to no hope of a sequel to 2012’s Sleeping Dogs, the well-received video game will live on in the form of a live-action feature film adaptation starring Donnie Yen.
Recently, the 56-year-old actor (Ip-Man 4, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) revealed on his Weibo account (via Daniel Ahmad on Twitter) that he has begun preparations for the production of the movie.
As indicated in the translations above, Yen expressed his excitement to embark on this new project, clearly with the Sleeping Dogs hashtag included. Though he didn’t mention any other details, this all but confirms that production is slated to begin later this year.
Just to jog your memory a little bit, Sleeping Dogs is a 2012 action-adventure video game by Square Enix and the now-defunct United Front Games. It follows the exploits of undercover cop Wei Shen, as he delves into the seedy underbelly of Hong Kong in hopes of undermining the Sun On Yee Triad.
The Sleeping Dogs movie is being produced by dj2 Entertainment, who worked on the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, and is also taking on live-action adaptations of Disco Elysium and My Friend Pedro.
