Much like a case of real-world Spidey Senses, Spider-Man: Brand New Day star Sadie Sink has revealed that she found out about her casting through online fan theories of her involvement in the upcoming sequel a few days before she actually got the offer to be a part of the film.

This revelation came during her appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, where she admitted that it was “torture” not being able to tell people which character she’s playing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
“I found out through online theories. Like, before I got cast in Spider-Man, like, there was speculation online that said, ‘Sadie Sink is going to be in the new Spider-Man,’” she explained. “I was like, ‘Hmm? I am?’ And sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it. So yeah, those theories, there’s sometimes some truth to it.”
Hot off portraying Max Mayfield in Netflix’s Stranger Things, Sink is looking to make her mark in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), as apart from her mystery involvement in the upcoming film, which was confirmed in March 2025, the 23-year-old will also reportedly reprise the role in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

Many have speculated that for her to make a follow-up appearance in Secret Wars, Sinks’ role has to be a rather important one, leading many to believe that she would play Mary Jane Watson, long-time love interest of Peter Parker, who just so happens to be a redhead like the actress herself. Although Sink has played coy about these rumours, previously suggesting during an interview with Entertainment Weekly that “A lot of people forget that hair colour can change, but yeah, I understand all of the theories.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the fourth instalment in the Holland-led franchise, following 2021’s No Way Home. While story specifics remain under wraps, the comic book storyline it adapts sees Peter Parker landing a deal with Mephisto to make the world forget his identity as Spider-Man and resurrect Aunt May. However, the spell ends up resetting his world and terminating his marriage with MJ, played by Zendaya (Euphoria) in the movies. The film is set for release on 31 July 2026.
