Spider-Man, Spider-Man does whatever a spider can — no matter the universe. The first trailer for Marvel Animation’s hotly anticipated Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has dropped, introducing a parallel timeline fusing classic and contemporary elements.
In the two-minute preview, Tony Stark / Iron Man is notably absent as the web-slinger’s mentor per established by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Norman Osborn — the alter-ego of his arch-nemesis — stepping into the role instead. Apart from the blue-and-white superhero look, it also shows a nerdy, teenage Peter Parker back in school, alongside a more traditional black-and-white costume design.
Per the official liner, the 10-episode animated outing will feature “a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots”, conveyed through stylish comic panel animation and deep cuts like the Future Foundation suit (essentially the aforementioned outfit). The modern furnishing, meanwhile, takes the form of a remixed riff on the iconic 1960s Spider-Man TV theme, references to social media trends, and more.
Breathing life into the titular webhead is Hudson Thames, joined by an ensemble cast that includes Colman Domingo as Osborn, Kari Wahlgren as Aunt May and Hugh Dancy as Doctor Octopus. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise their roles from Netflix’s Daredevil series, with Paul F. Tompkins tapped to voice classic villain The Wizard.
More character appearances are expected, as previously revealed. While it’s unclear whether Captain America will make its way to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man as he’s only seen in a photo with Osborn, Marvel favourites like Doctor Strange, Mac Gargan/Scorpion, Dmitri Smerdyakov/Cameleon, Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino, James Sanders/Speed Demon, Milos Masaryk/Unicorn, and Anton Miguel Rodriquez/Tarantula will get their fair share of the spotlight.
Jeff Tramell serves as head writer, while Mel Zeywer is on board as supervising director. Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt and Trammell are executive producing the series, which has a second season currently in development.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will swing onto Disney+ on 29 January 2025.
