Diablo 4 May Stick With Diablo 2’s Dark Tone; Open World And PVP A Possibility

As the weeks go by, it seems that the long-rumoured Diablo 4 may be an actuality after all. This is all thanks to various leaks that have teased the game in its entirety, as well as possible characters that may appear.

Arguably the biggest rumour that has been circling around Diablo 4 lately is a curious one. According to Redditor u/PracticalBrush12, the fourth main game in the dark fantasy action-RPG franchise is going to resemble the likes of the classic Diablo and Diablo 2 more, which are gritty, bloody and downright dark.

Gameplay in Diablo 4 may be as dark and gritty as that of Diablo 2.

He also claims that Diablo 4‘s gameplay will incorporate more open-world elements, including more varied environments, as well as the ability for characters to “ride horses” and other mounts, as well as traverse the environment by interacting with it.

Diablo 4 is actually going to look dark, gritty and gross – no more rainbow shiny bullshit this time! Loactions are toned down, infrequently laid with corpses, wasteland, greyish deserts, clut caves surrounded by flesh, rotten crypts, marshes and bogs, plagued cities you name it. They are also seemingly much bigger, maybe even open? Characters now are able to ride horses (possibly other mounts), also there’s contextual interaction with environment ? – climbing a wall Lost Ark style. Blood splatters look more like blood and not splashed jam too.

This, as PracticalBrush12 says, is a “wink to Diablo 2 fans”, eschewing the middling cartoony palate used in Diablo 3.

Additionally, he claims that he has knowledge on the three playable character classes in Diablo 4: Barbarian, Mage, and Druid. Barbarian and Mage should be familiar to veterans of the franchise, as is Druid, though the hybrid physical/magic-user hasn’t seen an outing since Diablo 2.

In terms of multiplayer, PracticalBrush12 also claimed that PVP (player vs player) may be a possibility, though 4-player co-op will be making a return.

If you’re highly skeptical of these rumours (which is understandable, given the hazy nature of such articles), this particular Redditor has had a history of divulging leaked info, which usually can be reliable. He has done so for the likes of Pokémon Sword & Shield and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

Video game industry analyst (and also another reliable source of leaked info), Daniel Ahmad aka ZhugeEX, also supports the above claims.

Whatever the case, all signs point to BlizzCon 2019, which is said to reveal the game, as well as the likes of the also-rumoured Overwatch 2, in full.
