‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Sequel Might Get Multiplayer Mode

Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to get a multiplayer mode, but problems with its launch in 2020 resulted in multiplayer getting pulled from the game. Could a sequel succeed in resurrecting the long-awaited mode? Speculation just might become reality, as co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, Michal Nowakowski, revealed that a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel could potentially introduce a multiplayer mode.

With plans in development, there’s no concrete confirmation just yet, but fans are excited nonetheless for the prospect of having a multiplayer mode in the game. A planned AAA Cyberpunk multiplayer standalone game was previously announced, but the concept was shelved soon after.

Details about the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which uses “Orion” as a placeholder name, are scarce at the moment, but narrative director Philipp Weber hints at a possibly more in-depth diverging storylines based on player choices. By the end of this year, developer CD Projekt Red hopes to have 80 employees on board the project. The game will also receive a live-action adaptation, with the earliest release set for 2025.
