Studio CD Projekt Won’t Have Micro-Transactions In Single-Player Games

Studio CD Projekt’s (Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher) Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Piotr Nielubowicz has confirmed that the studio’s single-player games will not have micro-transactions in them, but did not rule out the possibility of that occurring in its multiplayer games.

This comes after Dragon’s Dogma 2′s controversial DLC move, which had a long list of micro-transactions revealed only after its release. Nielubowicz said in an interview with StockWatch.pl that “we do not see a place for microtransactions in the case of single-player games, but we do not rule out that we will use this solution in the future in the case of multiplayer projects.”

The studio currently has plenty of projects in development, including a Witcher remake, new Witcher games, its first original IP codenamed Project Hadar, and the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel which fans are anticipating.

CD Projekt’s move to not introduce micro-transactions in its single-player games is a step in a right direction, but whether the rest of the game industry will follow suit depends on the continued popularity of DLCs in the market.
