Blizzard Stealth Drops ‘Warcraft I & II’ Remasters

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the real-time strategy game series Warcraft, Blizzard is bringing back its classics for a new era, releasing remasters of both the original Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness.

Unveiled during the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct stream, the remasters include updated graphics, quality-of-life features, an improved UI / UX, and the option for players to revert to the original game’s visuals. Warcraft II Remastered will also include its Beyond the Dark Portal expansion pack, along with multiplayer featuring compatibility with all legacy custom maps.

The remasters arrive alongside an update for Warcraft III: Reforged, which provides a graphical overhaul and other quality-of-life changes, alongside a new visual setting for the game more akin to the look of the classic Warcraft III with a higher resolution. Players can also mix and match graphical elements, choosing between the game’s new, old, and the added remastered look, or a combination of the three.

Warcraft I: Remastered, Warcraft II Remastered and Warcraft III: Reforged will be bundled in the “Battle Chest”, a revamped version of the popular classic bundle, with prices adjusted based on the games that players already owned, with each game also being sold separately.

While the release of the remastered titles comes as a pleasant surprise, they are not entirely unexpected, as Warcraft II: Remastered was already leaked a week before on the game’s internal servers, revealing its logo and artwork beforehand. The Warcraft III: Reforged update also finally confirms the long-running rumour of an overhaul previously leaked by an unreleased 2.0 version change to its build.

Warcraft I: Remastered, Warcraft II Remastered and Warcraft III: Reforged are now available on Battle.net.
