‘Black Mirror’ Season 7 Set For 2025 Return With ‘USS Callister’ Sequel Episode

Netflix has unveiled plans for the return of Charlie Brooker’s critically acclaimed anthology series, Black Mirror, confirming a seventh season set to launch in 2025. The announcement came with a teaser hinting at the continuation of one of the series’ most iconic episodes in Season 4, USS Callister.

USS Callister, a highlight of the show’s fourth season, revolved around Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons), a programmer who crafts a virtual space adventure mirroring Star Trek, only to face rebellion from digital clones of his coworkers that resulted in his demise. The episode, celebrated for its writing and storytelling, clinched four Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Cinematography For A Limited Series Or Movie and Outstanding Television Movie.

The latest season arrives after a notable hiatus, with Season 6 dropping in June 2023 and the subsequent renewal announcement in November. Despite the two-year season gap, anticipation for Season 7 has only grown, especially with the inclusion of a fan-favourite sequel. Netflix’s Next on Netflix event in London confirmed the upcoming season would delve into the aftermath of Daly’s death, setting the stage for new challenges for the USS Callister crew.

Scheduled to feature six new episodes, Season 7 of Black Mirror will see Charlie Brooker teaming up once again with executive producers Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones. The upcoming season promises a mix of familiar themes and fresh narratives, with Netflix teasing, “Six new stories, but one looks a little familiar, along with a 30-second clip on X/Twitter.

Black Mirror’s previous seasons boasted an ensemble cast featuring stars like Salma Hayek, Michael Cera, Ben Barnes, Ayo Edebiri, and Cate Blanchett (just to name a few). Fans can look forward to revisiting the universe of Black Mirror on Netflix in 2025, continuing its exploration of the future’s perils and paradoxes with Season 7.
