Barbie’s Greta Gerwig “Terrified” Of Directing ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ Movies

After turning Mattel’s beloved doll into a movie for Barbie, you’d think that adapting The Chronicles of Narnia for the big screen would be an easy job for Greta Gerwig. Well, that’s not the case at all.

Gerwig will be helming two features based on The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix and the Barbie director is “properly scared” about the prospects when asked if her take on Narnia would be similar to her spin on Barbieland.

“I don’t know,” Gerwig says (via Total Film). “I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it. But I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start. I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Okay. Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’ No, I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary. And so we’ll see, I don’t know.”

Gerwig also added that she doesn’t plan on stopping with just the Narnia franchise. In fact, the director would love to tackle a variety of projects.

“I hope to make all different kinds of movies in the course of the time I get to make movies, which – it’s a long time, but it’s also limited. I want to do big things and small things and everywhere in between, and having another big canvas is exciting and also daunting,” she continued.

The last time Narnia was brought to the screen was in 2010. It is unclear if Gerwig’s movies will be a straight adaption but with plenty of books in the series, there is much for the director to work with.

The Chronicles of Narnia follows a group of children who are evacuated to the English countryside during WWII. The books tell of their adventures in the imaginary kingdom of Narnia, guided by a talking lion named Aslan, as they fight the White Witch and restore the throne to its rightful line
