The story of Jinx and Vi may have ended with Arcane Season 2, but the League of Legends cinematic universe is just getting started. Showrunner Christian Linke has confirmed plans for more TV projects based on Riot Games’ popular MOBA game, with a new series already one year into development.
Speaking to streamer Necrit94 in a Twitch interview, the co-creator revealed that “Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia are getting shows and are [the] next steps into this cinematic universe,” though a release window for the first of these new shows has yet to be set.
This aligns with a small tease of a certain crow in the final episode and comes after Linke’s earlier tease about fleshing out the lore of League of Legends on the small screen. “We spent nine years at this point on these 11 or so characters, so there’s also something about wanting to make sure that we are able to tell the stories of other characters that we’re also really passionate about,” he said previously.
For context, Noxus is the home of Mel and Ambessa Merdarda, and is known to be a brutal, expansionist empire primarily focused on conflict and conquering. Ionia comprises several allied provinces scattered across a massive archipelago called the First Lands, with popular game champions including Irelia, Master Yi, Shen, and Zed. As for Demacia, it serves as the main hub of the whole region and has a prestigious military history, introducing the likes of Fiora, Garen, Kayle, and Lux.
Developed by French studio Fortiche for Netflix, Arcane Season 2 marks a highly-anticipated return to one of the most critically acclaimed series after three years. It was released in three parts like before, and despite rumours of a five-season plan, was always meant to end in two seasons. The entire show cost US$250 million to make, most of which reportedly went into voice talent and giving the animators sufficient time to produce the stellar animation it’s so beloved for.
