While we have known for a while now that the Amazon live-action adaptation of the Fallout series of games will be coming in 2024, an exact date has not been pencilled in. Thankfully, the doubts have now been eradicated like everything before a nuclear bomb, with the premiere set for 12 April 2024 via Amazon Prime Video.
This reveal was made on 23 October, otherwise known to longtime fans as Fallout Day, the monumental in-game date that saw the Great War finally kick off, leaving everything in ruins amidst a nuclear wasteland. In just six months’ time, we will be taking a walk through those ruins as part of the streaming series.
According to a press release, the Amazon Fallout show will take the form of an original story set in the post-apocalyptic aftermath, with the action unfolding in Los Angeles. More importantly, the events that take place will be considered canon, so the lore of the games will continue to expand with this new addition.
While there will be fears about the authenticity and quality of the show, there will be some comfort in knowing that Todd Howard will be acting as an executive producer on the series. The show will also star Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight), Aaron Moten (Emancipation), Moisés Arias (The King of Staten Island), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), and Sarita Choudhury (Homeland).
Video game adaptations have been doing quite splendidly, with HBO’s The Last of Us and The Super Mario Bros. Movie achieving great success on both the big and small screens. The hope is that Fallout will follow in the same vein.
There is no further information as to how many episodes will consist of this debut season of Fallout on Amazon Prime Video, or even when fans can expect each new episode to drop. For now, we can just look forward to April next year and wait for the doors to Vault 33 to open.
