It’s been eight years since Toby Fox, the creator of indie gem Undertale, released the first chapter of Deltarune, but the journey is far from over. Following a long-awaited arrival, Chapter 5 shattered the RPG’s previous concurrent player record on Steam, scoring an all-time peak of 291,816 (via SteamDB) — more than double the original milestone of 133,920.

Amid the success, the developer also shared an update on the game’s future, confirming that the story will continue in a sixth entry. According to an FAQ on its Steam page, the team is aiming for a 2027 launch, and information on the development progress will be released periodically.
“The story is still continuing, and more Chapters will be added for free over time,” added Fox.
The increasing popularity of Deltarune is a testament to its enduring appeal, especially for an almost decade-old title. While its predecessor earned a dedicated following, its peak concurrent player count reached 11,071. It’s unclear when the game will conclude, though the chapter select screen has always shown seven chapters, and Fox may look to wrap by 2028, in time for its 10th anniversary.
Set in a parallel universe to Undertale, it centres on Kris, a human teenager predetermined to save the world alongside Susie, a monster, and Ralsei, a prince from the Dark World. As players progress, they will establish relationships with a variety of allies and opponents, and engage in combat with a mix of turn-based and bullet-hell mechanics.
