‘Adventure Time’ Spin-Off Reignites Spark Between Bubblegum And Marceline

It’s time for more Adventure Time. Following the success of its Fionna and Cake and Distant Lands spin-offs, the animated fantasy series is getting another offshoot at HBO Max, this time featuring fan-favourite characters Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen (happy Pride, indeed!).

Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline

Titled, well, Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline, the 10-episode series will follow the pair’s journey “across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering familiar faces and new dangers.” Adam Muto, who previously worked on the aforementioned instalments, continues to serve as showrunner and is set to executive produce alongside longtime producer Fred Seibert and Sam Register, president at Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.

As Variety reports, the show was greenlit back in April and is currently being written. This latest entry is expected to span multiple seasons, much like the main series and the two-season Fiona and Cake, as opposed to the standalone approach adopted by the upcoming Adventure Time: Side Quests, bowing on Disney+ on 29 June.

“Continuing in the spirit of Fionna & Cake, I’m excited that the next Adventure Time series will feature two more of my favourite characters: Bubblegum & Marceline,” shared Muto. “It’s been a fantastic opportunity to revisit old friends and build on the world of Adventure Time.”

Running from 2010 to 2018, Adventure Time chronicles the adventures of a boy named Finn and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake, who also happens to be a dog with the power to change size and shape at will, in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Both Bubblegum and Marceline are among the many characters they meet along the way, and after years of speculation, the couple finally confirmed their relationship with a kiss in a Season 10 finale.

Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline currently has no release date.
