As announced via a post on Ubisoft’s website, the project marks Caplan’s return to FX following her work on the 2023 limited series Fleishman Is In Trouble, to which she earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actress in a limited series. Details on the plot of Far Cry, alongside Caplan’s and Mac’s roles, are still being kept under wraps for now, although the series will feature a different plot and cast each season, much like the structure of its gaming source material.

The Far Cry TV series was first announced in November 2025 and will be helmed by creators Noah Hawley (Alien: Earth) and Mac (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), with the latter also serving as its executive producer and star. The series will stream on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ internationally.

The series will be based on Ubisoft’s iconic gaming franchise of the same name, which traces its roots to 2004 and has since spawned six numbered titles alongside numerous spin-offs, with 2021’s Far Cry 6 being the most recent entry. The franchise is also set to continue with two unnamed titles in the works, one known internally as Project Blackbird, and would allegedly feature a “non-linear story” centred around rescuing the protagonist’s kidnapped family. The game would also reportedly task players with completing the campaign in a set time frame – 72 in-game hours, which equates to 24 hours in real-time.

The upcoming anthology series will also be the first TV adaptation of the gaming franchise, and the second attempt at bringing the legendary shooter to life on-screen, following the 2008 direct-to-video film Far Cry, which launched to mostly negative reviews.
