Epic Games Reportedly Working On Disney Extraction Shooter, Because Why Not

Epic Games, the developers of the worldwide Battle Royale sensation Fortnite, might be looking to score another multiplayer hit, with an upcoming extraction shooter featuring Disney characters reported to be in the works and set to launch later this year.

This news comes from a Bloomberg report, which states that the currently unnamed project is slated to launch in November 2026, alongside two other, also unnamed titles, all three the result of a US$1.5 billion investment made with Disney back in 2024. According to the report, the upcoming extraction shooter is said to be similar to Embark Studios’ Arc Raiders, which makes sense considering the massive success of the 2025 title.

Since its collaboration with Disney, Epic Games has already brought some familiar faces into the world of Fortnite, such as The Incredibles, Maleficent, and Buzz Lightyear, which are available in the game via purchasable skins. The game has also seen numerous crossovers with characters from the Marvel universe, alongside recently allowing creators to make their own officially-licensed Star Wars minigames. But now, it seems like Disney is finally taking the spotlight.

For now, it’s unclear how this mysterious Disney-themed extraction shooter will shape up, or which characters from the studio’s massive roster will be making an appearance. According to Bloomberg’s sources, early internal reviews of the unannounced title haven’t been great, with some expressing concerns over its unoriginal mechanics, but some employees stated that they are optimistic Epic will get it right by launch.

“This is not reflective of the ambitions of the Disney collaboration,” Liz Markman, Senior Director of Communications at Epic Games, said in a statement regarding Bloomberg’s report. “We are building a new games and entertainment universe of Disney experiences.”

News of the game also follows a round of massive layoffs at Epic in March, which affected over 1,000 employees, some of whom were reportedly working on the three unannounced Disney games, alongside the cancellation of three Fortnite-based titles, Rocket RacingBallistic and Fortnite Festival Battle Stage. It’s clear that this Disney extraction shooter is meant to be Epic’s comeback following the apparent downward trajectory of Fortnite, but whether the studios can pull it off, especially with a genre as niche as extraction shooters, remains to be seen.
