Talk about manifestation! After making a joking comment about wanting to join the cast of the A Minecraft Movie sequel, Kristen Dunst is now one of them. The Spider-Man trilogy star is set to play Alex, one of the primary avatars available in Mojang’s video game juggernaut, in the yet-to-be-titled film, Deadline reports.

Specifics about her role are kept deep in the mine alongside plot details, but Dunst will join the returning roster of Jason Momoa (Garrett Garrison), Jack Black (Steve), Danielle Brooks (Dawn), Matt Berry (Nitwit), and Jennifer Coolidge (Marlene).
“Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?” she said in a previous interview with Town & Country Magazine, adding that her kids loved the first film, which has grossed a whopping US$961 million worldwide to date, following a record-breaking US$301 million debut.
Also starring Sebastian Hansen as Henry as Emmy Myers as Natalie, The Minecraft Movie follows four misfits, who are pulled through a portal into a cubic wonderland, and embark on a quest back to the real world with the help of a “crafter” named Steve. The second instalment welcomes Jared Hess back into the director’s seat, with Chris Galletta penning the script.

Producers for the sequel include Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Momoa, and the late Jill Messick, while Jay Ashenfelter, Jen Conroy, Brian Mendoza, Jon Berg, and Jonathan Spaihts will executive produce. The sequel is slated for release in theatres on 23 July 2027.
