Game of Thrones fans have just received an exciting update on the slew of spin-offs in development, including 9 Voyages, an animated series focused on Lord Corlys Velaryon, the Sea Snake, which will reportedly be helmed by animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky.

These updates come from an interview with Deadline, where HBO Chairman Casey Bloys spoke about the launch of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a prequel series released on 18 January, alongside Season Three of its other spin-off, House of the Dragon. Most interestingly, however, were the number of upcoming Game of Thrones titles in the works, among which was the long-gestating 9 Voyages.
“HBO has developed a slew of other offshoots, with a number being rumoured to be currently in the works, including a Jon Snow and Arya Stark sequel written by Quoc Dang Tran; an animated Sea Snake project, 9 Voyages, with Genndy Tartakovsky said to be attached, as well as 10,000 Ships written by Eboni Booth and Aegon’s Conquest penned by Mattson Tomlin,” Deadline reported.
Tartakovsky’s involvement in the animated project would certainly excite fans, as the animator is renowned for his past works, including 2001’s Samurai Jack and 2019’s Primal, both of which he created, alongside directing the 2003 animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars.

9 Voyages was initially planned as a live-action show hailing from showrunner Bruno Heller (Gotham), but was announced to have switched to the animation format due to budget concerns in 2024. The series will be centred on the Seas Snake, Lord Corlys Velaryon (played by Steve Toussaint in House of the Dragon), the head of House Velaryon, widower of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, and Hand of the Queen on the Black Council of Rhaenyra Targaryen.
“We have moved 9 Voyages, our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Snake, over from live action to animation, a move I support fully,” said Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin in a blog post at the time. “There’s a whole world out there. And we have a lot better chance of showing it all with animation.”
