‘Detective Conan’ Sets Franchise’s 29th Film Focusing On Chihaya Hagiwara For 2026

The 28th feature-length entry in the Detective Conan franchise has yet to open in Singapore, but fans already have another reason to cheer. Ahead of the film’s 6 September premiere on local shores, Toho announced that its next big-screen project for the long-running series is set for theatrical release in Japan during next year’s Golden Week, taking place from 29 April to 6 May 2026.

The super teaser trailer, a longer version of the one shown after the screenings of Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback in Japan, features a bomb countdown and ends with Chihaya Hagiwara, an assistant inspector from Kanagawa Prefecture, saying, “What did you want to say that day?”.

Alongside the 40-second video, the official X/Twitter account also confirmed Miyuki Sawashiro — the industry heavyweight behind Kurapika (Hunter X Hunter), Raiden Shogun / Raiden Ei (Genshin Impact), and more — as the new voice actor for Chihaya, replacing the late Atsuko Tanaka, who passed away in 2024.

“I am Miyuki Sawashiro, and I will be in charge of the voice of Chihaya. I love Atsuko Tanaka-san. I don’t have much to remember her, because there is no day to forget. I read Aoyama-sensei’s original manga carefully, and I wanted to do everything I could so that people would love Chihaya with my voice,” shared Sawashiro in the post. “I decided to get a motorcycle license. But I couldn’t get up the fallen motorcycle and couldn’t join. I have to start with muscle training. I look forward to seeing you in the TV series and in the movies (!?). If you are looking forward to it too, there’s nothing more reassuring than that. I would appreciate your support.”

Other details about the 29th film in the series, including story specifics and a title, have yet to be announced. As for Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback, it opened in Japan on 18 April and earned 3,438,626,700 yen (US$24.15 million / S$30.4 million) in its first three days. It also sold 2,314,690 tickets within the same period, setting a new opening-weekend record for the franchise, and would go on to become the second top-grossing big-screen instalment, trailing behind the 27th movie, Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram.
