The tough-as-nails, Soulslike genre is all about dying over and over again, so it’s nothing short of apt that an upcoming anime adaptation based on FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has ‘No Defeat’ as part of its title.
Announced during Gamescom 2025, it features fully hand-drawn art that looks to directly adapt the game’s story, with a sequence in the trailer showcasing one of its most iconic moments — the showdown between Wolf and Genichiro in a field of reeds. An official visual for the anime, which will be exclusive to Crunchyroll when it debuts in 2026, was also unveiled:
Studio Qzil.la, whose credits include the opening theme sequence of Hell’s Paradise and the ending theme for Episode 11 of Chainsaw Man, is handling the animation. Kenichi Kutsuna serves as director, joined by Shunsuke Fukui as deputy director, Kaito Moki as chief animation director, Takashi Mukoda as action animation director, Takuya Satou as scriptwriter, Takahiro Kishida as character designer, and Shuta Hasunuma as composer.
“We are taking on the monumental task of animating the breathtakingly beautiful Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In doing so, we are pouring every ounce of our artistic vision and passion for beauty into its production,” said Kutsuna. “The final product is being crafted to be a truly memorable experience, one that will leave a lasting impression on both dedicated fans of the game and those who are discovering the world of Sekiro for the very first time. Please look forward to it.”
While no synopsis was shared, the beloved 2019 title follows Wolf, a shinobi who embarks on a quest to rescue his lord and becomes embroiled in a conflict for the fate of the Ashina clan. Daisuke Namikawa (Tōru Oikawa in Haikyuu!!), who voices the warrior in the original title, will reprise his role in the anime, alongside Miyuki Satou (young Noctis in Final Fantasy XV) as Kuro / The Divine Heir and Kenjiro Tsuda (Kento Nanami in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Genichiro Ashina.

The Sekiro: No Defeat anime is one of two known upcoming adaptations of FromSoftware’s works, with the other being a live-action Elden Ring film from A24 and writer-director Alex Garland.
Sekiro: No Defeat will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll sometime in 2026.
