The first season of fantasy anime hit Witch Hat Atelier ended on a cliffhanger, but fans won’t be left hanging. Following the release of its final episode, the series has been confirmed for a second season, with Crunchyroll remaining the streaming home in select markets.

The announcement post on X/Twitter was accompanied by a celebratory visual from manga author Kamome Shirahama, and additional details, such as a release date or new casting, were not disclosed. It’s also unclear which arcs and chapters will be covered – the first season ran for 13 episodes, spanning the start of the series up through part of the Second Pentagram Test arc.
Originally scheduled to air in 2025, the anime was directed by Ayumu Watanabe (Summer Time Rendering) at Bug Films, featuring character designs by Kairi Unabara (Fate/strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn) and a musical score by Elden Ring composer Yuka Kitamura. Rena Motomura (Kyoka Kitahara in Maebashi Witches) and Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro Kamado in Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer) voiced protagonist Coco and her magician mentor Qifrey, respectively.
The manga is ongoing and has 16 volumes as of April 2026. It has over nine million copies in circulation and several accolades under its belt, including the Harvey Award for the Best Manga category and the Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material – Asia. A spin-off by Hiromi Sato titled Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen debuted in 2019.

“In a world where everyone takes wonders like magic spells and dragons for granted, Coco is a girl with a simple dream: she wants to be a witch. But everybody knows magicians are born, not made, and Coco was not born with a gift for magic,” reads the official synopsis for the series.
“Resigned to her un-magical life, Coco is about to give up on her dream to become a witch … until the day she meets Qifrey, a mysterious, travelling magician. After secretly seeing Qifrey perform magic in a way she’s never seen before, Coco soon learns what everybody “knows” might not be the truth, and discovers that her magical dream may not be as far away as it may seem…”
Season 2 of Witch Hat Atelier is currently in development.
