Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’ Spin-Off ‘Dream Productions’ & ‘Win or Lose’ Set Disney+ Release

Pixar is set to expand the beloved Inside Out universe with a new spin-off series Dream Productions, alongside its original series Win or Lose, both slated for exclusive Disney+ releases.

Dream Productions, encompassing four episodes, will premiere on 11 December. This series delves into the imaginative studio within Riley’s mind, responsible for crafting her nightly dreams. Set between the events of Inside Out and Inside Out 2, the series will explore how Riley’s maturing emotions influence her dream production, handled efficiently “every night, on time and on budget.” Mike Jones directs the series, producing with Jaclyn Simon, featuring a range of new and returning characters from the Inside Out world. The full synopsis is as follows:

Riley is growing up and when her memories need some extra processing, Joy and the rest of the Core Emotions send them to Dream Productions. Acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (voice of Paula Pell) faces a nightmare of her own: Trying to create the next hit dream after being paired up with Xeni (voice of Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director looking to step up into the big leagues of night dreams. Also featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Ally Maki, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black and Phyllis Smith, the hilarious, mockumentary-style series is written and directed by Mike Jones and produced by Jaclyn Simon.

Dream Productions, Win or Lose

Following Dream Productions, Win or Lose will debut on 19 February 2025. This eight-episode series, Pixar’s first long-form animated project, presents the experiences of diverse characters in the week leading up to a significant Little League game. Per Disney, Win or Lose “reveals what it actually feels like to be in the shoes of eight different characters in the week leading up to the big game — the insecure kids, their helicopter parents, even a lovesick umpire — with incredibly funny, very emotional and uniquely animated perspectives”. Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth) lends his voice as Coach Dan, under the direction and writing of Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates.

Pete Docter, Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming series, noting that Dream Productions dives deep into one of the most cherished elements of Inside Out—the creation of Riley’s dreams. He touted Win or Lose as a significant, pioneering series that exemplifies Pixar’s strengths in storytelling and character development. This strategic pivot follows the immense box office success of Inside Out 2, which is set to debut on Disney+ following its theatrical run.

Dream Productions will premiere on Disney+ on 11 December, and Win or Lose will debut on 19 February 2025.
