Paprika is a character-driven sci-fi series with a mind-bending narrative centering around a technology that allows us to invade people’s dreams. Many people know of Paprika because of the 2006 anime film by Satoshi Kon. Although the 2006 film has been considered a masterpiece by many viewers, it was very loosely inspired by the novel. Yan’s series is expected to follow the book much more closer.

Yan recently received her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for her episode of Succession, ‘The Disruption.’ The episode marked her first time directing for a series. She also famously became the first Asian woman to direct a big-budget superhero movie – 2020’s Birds of Prey. The film is a spinoff and sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad.

Aside from Paprika, Yan is also writing and directing a feature film titled The Freshening with her producing partner Ash Sarohia.
