Foldables are slowly making their way into the mainstream. Samsung has its Galaxy Z Fold series, Huawei has its P50 Pocket, and there are even foldable laptops now. Vivo is getting its skin in the game with its first foldable phone, the Vivo X Fold.
The X Fold features an 8.03-inch 120Hz AMOLED folding screen that can be used more like a tablet, while the 6.53-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen on the outside serves as a more typical phone screen. The X Fold’s folding screen uses Schott’s Ultra-Thin Glass, which is the same type of glass used by Samsung for its foldable.
According to GSMArena, there are also two in-display fingerprint scanners on the phone. The hinge is also an aircraft-grade floating wing hinge, which allows the phone to be closed flat, or stay opened at between 60 to 120 degrees in angle.
As for the cameras, devised in collaboration with ZEISS, the Vivo X Fold has a 50MP main camera, a 12MP zoom camera, a 5x periscope zoom camera with up to 60x digital zoom, and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. There are also two 16MP selfie cameras, accommodating for both use of the folding screen and the normal screen.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with a 4,600mAh battery that can be charged at 50W wirelessly or at 66W wired. The Vivo X Fold will be available exclusively in China at first, in Black, Blue, and Grey, and will retail at CNY 8,999.
