Unified Lara Croft Redesign Revealed For Future ‘Tomb Raider’ Games

It’s a double celebration for Lara Croft, who received a redesigned on her birthday, 14 February (aka Valentine’s Day). A new Tomb Raider website was also unveiled on the same day, hinting at more to come for the franchise as the adventurer sets out to unify two timelines in canon.

The first six Tomb Raider games (1996 original up to Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness) were developed by studio Core Design, and development was later transferred to Crystal Dynamics. The studio has confirmed that this next game, which sees Amazon Games hopping onboard, will unify both timelines.

Lara Croft’s redesign is an updated version of her look in the 1996 original, sporting a classic blue tank top and shorts, along with her trusty double pistols. The necklace hanging off her neck hints that it will take place after Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as she wears it in the Survivor timeline games.

“With Tomb Raider’s extensive history, this is not an easy task, and we ask for your patience as we go through the development process,” said game director Will Kerslake.

An anime is also in the works at Netflix, with plenty to look forward to from Tomb Raider as fans eagerly await news on the game’s development. On the live-action front, Fleabag creator and director Phoebe Waller-Bridge will bring her exploits to the small screen at Amazon, with WandaVision and The Marvels scribe Megan McDonnell penning the screenplay.
