‘Transformers One’ Rewrites Tragic Relationship Between Optimus Prime & Megatron

San Diego Comic-Con kicked off with a buzz as Transformers One made a significant splash with its first major panel, unveiling an exciting new trailer and fresh details about this animated prequel. The film reimagines the origins of iconic characters Optimus Prime and Megatron, exploring their early days on Cybertron before they became leaders of the Autobots and Decepticons.

Transformers One introduces fans to Optimus Prime and Megatron as ordinary worker robots — Orion Pax and D-16 respectively — who cannot transform. Their journey begins with an adventure to Cybertron’s surface alongside two other robots. It’s there they encounter Alpha Trion, who grants them the transformative powers they would become famous for. However, mastering these abilities does not come immediately, leading to moments filled with both action and comedy.

The storyline delves into the deep connection between Orion Pax and D-16, revealing their initial camaraderie. This bond is tested as they gain new powers and face off against emerging threats to their world. The new Transformers One trailer showcased at Comic-Con highlights this dramatic transformation, particularly focusing on D-16’s gradual change into the future Megatron, hinting at the future conflict with Optimus Prime.

Amidst their tale, antagonists like Starscream, Shockwave, and Soundwave emerge, with the trailer teasing Starscream amassing his own army and posing a significant threat. The implication is clear: the discord sown by Starscream may well influence D-16’s transformation into Megatron, setting the stage for the eventual factional war over Cybertron.

The film, praised for reviving the essence of the Transformers franchise, features a younger cast of the beloved characters, exploring their transformations from allies to adversaries. Voiced by Chris Hemsworth (Orion Pax), Brian Tyree Henry (D-16), and supported by Scarlett Johansson (Elita) and Keegan-Michael Key (B-127), the movie promises a blend of deep narrative and stunning visual animation.

With such profound character arcs and visually captivating animation, Transformers One is already being hailed as one of the best entries in the series.

Set to be the franchise’s first theatrically released animated film since 1986’s The Transformers: The Movie, Transformers One is scheduled for release on 12 September.
