Insomniac’s Long-Awaited ‘Marvel’s Wolverine’ Claws Towards Sept 2026 Release

Insomniac Games has finally revealed the release date for its elusive yet highly anticipated action game, Marvel’s Wolverine, with the hack-and-slash title carving its way to the PS5 on 15 September 2026.

The surprise announcement came via a post on Insomniac’s social media pages, with a caption that reads “Let’s cut to the chase: Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026,” alongside a brief six-second teaser, which unfortunately didn’t reveal anything else about the upcoming game apart from its new release date.

With its newly announced release date, the game is set to launch just two months before what’s perhaps 2026’s most anticipated game yet, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI, so it remains to be seen if this will affect sales in any way. The surprise announcement was also a welcome one following fans’ disappointment when Marvel’s Wolverine was a no-show at the PlayStation State of Play Showcase in early February.

Despite being Insomniac Games’ next big superhero title following 2023’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine has largely remained elusive since its initial reveal back in 2021 via a cinematic trailer at The Game Awards that year. The game would then go radio silent for the next four years, apart from a massive leak in 2023, only to officially resurface in 2025 with a proper gameplay trailer.

While brief, the trailer officially revealed that Wolverine will be played by Liam McIntyre, known for portraying JD Fenix in the Gears of War franchise. The game will also feature familiar faces across the Marvel universe, including Mystique and Omega Red, alongside a heaping dose of blood and gore worthy of the clawed hero, a first for the studio. Although not confirmed, the game also looks to be a more linear affair compared to Insomniac’s more recent titles, with snippets of footage teasing that Mystique could potentially be a playable character as well, similar to what the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise did with Mary Jane Watson.

Marvel’s Wolverine will launch exclusively on the PlayStation 5 on 15 September 2026.
