Avengers: Doomsday will mark the long-awaited return of Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with its second teaser trailer spotlighting Thor as he prays for the safe reunion with his daughter Love ahead of what seems to be a massive battle.
Showcased before select screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, Avengers: Doomsday‘s second trailer opens with Thor alone in the woods, on his knee with Stormbreaker and praying to Odin for a safe return so that he can reunite with his daughter, Love. As he speaks, footage is also shown of Love getting a kiss on the forehead by Thor, signalling an intense battle to come that leaves Thor unsure if he can survive unscathed. The trailer then ends with the text “Thor will return in Avengers: Doomsday“.
Last seen in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder is notably much more serious this time around, a stark contrast to the character’s often goofy portrayal in past films, beginning from his “Fat Thor” arc in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. If anything, this just goes to show how big a threat Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be in the upcoming movie, one that can even shake the mighty god.
This teaser follows a previous one centred on Chris Evans’ Captain America, who will also make an appearance despite being absent from the film’s initial cast reveal, this time with a baby in tow. More of such character trailers are planned in the coming weeks, including one that will spotlight Doctor Doom himself.
Of course, the massive crossover film is set to feature a plethora of familiar MCU faces like Sebastian Stan’s Bucky, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, and Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, among others, with characters from the X-Men universe like Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast also joining forces to face off against the massive evil threat.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theatres on 18 December 2026, followed by its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, on 17 December 2027.
