Top Gun: Maverick continues to soar to new heights. The Tom Cruise move has now become the most-watched film globally on Paramount+.
Top Gun: Maverick debuted on the streaming service on 22 December and surpassed previous record holder Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by 60%. The sequel also increased viewership of the 1986 original film by 400% and the Mission Impossible franchise by over 140%.
“The runaway success of this film across theatrical, digital and now in streaming is an undeniable proof point demonstrating the power of Paramount’s multi-platform release strategy,” said Brian Robbins, President and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Chief Content Officer, Movies and Kids & Family, Paramount+.
“Across all our 2022 titles, and now with Top Gun: Maverick, our studio has unlocked the value of variable windowing that streaming provides to augment a film’s overall success.”
Top Gun: Maverick soared into theatres earlier this May to instant critical success. The movie received an impressive 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 99% audience rating. The sequel also received a rare A+ on Cinemascore and hauled in US$1.48 billion worldwide. It is also Cruise’s biggest hit ever.
