Tom Cruise Set For Epic Stunt To Close Olympics 2024

The ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics looks set to close out with a bang, and Tom Cruise will be part of the spectacle. According to TMZ and Deadline, there are plans for the Mission: Impossible star to make a major appearance during the closing ceremony on 11 or 12 August (depending on region) and execute a stunt on the grand stage.

Details are naturally kept under wraps, but TMZ reports that it’ll involve the act of “rappelling down the top of Stade de France, landing on the stadium field, and carrying the official Olympic flag.” The feat won’t be easy though, with the outlet highlighting a pre-recorded skydiving bit, as well as its “very complicated” nature that may require the help of a stunt double.

While photos of Cruise skydiving down the Hollywood sign were previously circulated in March, no connection was made between the event and this year’s Olympics at that time. Per a source to Deadline, viewers can expect “a major Hollywood production”, alongside a segment where Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass receives the flag from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, which has been an open secret for some time.

The actor’s presence at the 2024 Paris Olympics further adds credibility to the reports — Cruise was spotted in the crowd on day 2 of the gymnastic events, where he cheered on Simone Biles and Team USA. It wouldn’t be his first Olympic venture, either, being a former celebrity torch-bearer in L.A. in 2004.

After this year’s run, the world’s biggest sporting event will grace Los Angeles from 14 to 30 July 2028. The city previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984, which would make it a three-time Summer Games host.
