With Disney Lorcana moving into its 11th expansion, Winterspell, the trading card game has settled into a rhythm where protecting your board state at all times has become a clear priority.
It now sits in a space where, if interaction cards are not drawn, either player can easily snowball into a runaway situation. Once lore generation accelerates, it often becomes difficult for the opposing player to catch up.
Reinforcing this need for board stability is the arrival of McHorn: Ice-Cold Officer, a card designed to keep key pieces protected while still being able to swing back hard.
McHorn: Ice-Cold Officer is a five-cost Common Steel ink ally and one of the few Bodyguard cards in the game whose Strength exceeds its Willpower. With a beefy stat line of 6 Strength and 5 Willpower, it serves as a sizable blocker that helps keep your lore-generating engine safe. Before his arrival, only a small handful of cards filled this role, most notably Bagheera: Guardian Jaguar and Hercules: Beloved Hero.
From set to set, there has been a clear sense of power creep. The previous Steel ink Bodyguard from Whispers In The Well, The Headless Horseman: Relentless Spirit, cost four ink and came with a modest 4 Strength and 4 Willpower. Even with the increased cost, McHorn: Ice-Cold Officer is clearly above rate for its rarity.
Given that the current meta deck remains Amethyst Steel, McHorn’s inclusion further solidifies the deck’s defensive core. That said, its higher cost may make it difficult to justify a slot currently occupied by heavy hitters like Hades and Elsa.
Disney Lorcana’s latest expansion, Winterspell, is set for release on 13 February 2026.
