The Dell Experience at Computex 2019 brought us a steady stream of new gaming hardware for all the hungry gaming geeks out there. Where Alienware’s new m series gaming laptops have certainly upped the ante on slim gaming profiles, Dell Gaming has options for those with a slimmer wallet.
Enter the new Dell G3 15 (3590). Where its 2018 predecessor resembles a more conventional laptop, the new G3 15 takes some subtle visual cues from its Alienware cousins (the angular hinge area, the left-sided touchpad), which make it scream “gaming laptop” even more than ever.
Also in keeping with the new visual update, this new model packs a lot of punch in spite of being a budget offering from Dell Gaming.
The new Dell G3 15 is quite the powerhouse, as it can be outfitted with some of the latest hardware out there. For starters, it can house the 9th-gen Coffee Lake Intel Core CPUs (up to i7), which already enables it to keep up with some of the premium offerings available.
It can also be equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 16 series GPUs, which provide a decent amount of graphical power, considering that this is a sub-S$2,000 gaming laptop. The configurable memory allows you to have up to 32GB of RAM, which more than makes up for the lack of a stronger GPU.
The 15.6-inch Full HD display with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz complements the GPU perfectly, allowing you to play high-octane titles such as Overwatch and Apex Legends with relative ease and not break a sweat. Not to mention that the bezels are as small as ever, in keeping with the latest trend of min-maxed displays on gaming laptops these days.
If you’re worried about the Dell G3 15 overheating with all this hardware, you need not worry, as Dell hasn’t overlooked that aspect. They’ve included a Game Shift key (F7 on the keyboard) that gets the cooling fans to go on overdrive for a time, which enables you to maximise your time in that Overwatch or Apex Legends match.
But if you’re playing a more drawn-out session of an action-RPG such as the upcoming Code Vein, you’d best use it sparingly, as Game Shift isn’t cut out for longer periods of use. Do so and the fans might just melt, a la the Iron Throne at the end of Game of Thrones.

In any case, the 2019 Dell G3 15 more than makes for a solid option for gamers on a budget.
The Dell G3 15 (3590) is available now, and will retail from US$799 onwards.

Marion has a serious RPG addiction. Sometimes it bleeds into real life; he forgets to sleep because he thinks he has a Witcher’s body clock. Forgive him in advance if he suddenly blurts out terms such as “Mind Flayer” and “Magic Missile”, because never once does he stop thinking about his next Dungeons & Dragons game.
