‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Wraps Production, To Be Disney’s First Star Wars Movie In 7 Years

The upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, has successfully wrapped up filming and is on track for release on 22 May 2026. This exciting development features Pedro Pascal reprising his role as Din Djarin, alongside his Force-sensitive companion Grogu. The pair first captivated audiences on Disney+ in 2019 and are now set to take their adventures to the big screen, which is set to be Disney’s first Star Wars movie in 7 years, after 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The Mandalorian & Grogu

Directed by Jon Favreau, a seasoned veteran in both the Marvel and Star Wars universes, The Mandalorian & Grogu promises to extend the storyline from the third season of The Mandalorian. This latest instalment is expected to pick up with Din Djarin retired but still accompanied by Grogu, exploring new dynamics and revisiting familiar characters and storylines from the series. Notable continuations include Katee Sackhoff’s portrayal of Bo-Katan Kryze as she attempts to rebuild Mandalore and Rosario Dawson’s ongoing quest as Ahsoka Tano to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen.

The film’s production began in July of this year, proceeded smoothly without leaks, and has reportedly wrapped filming as per Puck News. The use of cutting-edge Volume technology, which significantly reduces the need for on-location filming, has helped maintain secrecy around the project’s specifics.

Among the confirmed cast is Sigourney Weaver, whose role remains under wraps. However, she expressed excitement about joining the Star Wars universe and working with the beloved character Grogu. Speculation also surrounds Giancarlo Esposito’s potential return as Moff Gideon, hinting at another compelling performance in the Star Wars saga.

The Mandalorian & Grogu

Despite the positive progress on The Mandalorian & Grogu, the Star Wars fandom faced a setback with the news that another anticipated project, a Daisy Ridley-led film, lost its screenwriter Steven Knight.

The Mandalorian & Grogu aligns with Lucasfilm’s strategy to weave interconnected narratives across its cinematic and streaming productions, promising a deep and immersive experience for fans. As the project moves into post-production, anticipation builds for what is set to be a significant addition to the Star Wars legacy.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will open in cinemas on 22 May 2026.
