‘The Exorcist: Deceiver’ Loses Director, Gets Pulled From Schedule

The Exorcist reboot might be cursed. Or at least, derailed for now, after former director David Gordon Green exited The Exorcist: Deceiver, with its release date currently being pulled from Universal’s schedule. The film was formerly supposed to hit theatres on 18 April 2025, but it looks like that date might be pushed back further.

In 2021, Universal announced a new Exorcist trilogy which would reboot the franchise in a US$400 million deal, with Blumhouse producing along with Green as director. With no reasons given for Green’s sudden departure, Blumhouse and Universal are scrambling to find a new director for the second instalment.

There was no prior indication of his departure either, with Green having spoken to original Exorcist star Linda Blair about her character possibly returning in the sequel.

“I mean, I know we had a good time, I know she speaks very highly of the experience, and I’ve got infinite ideas of where we could go,” said Green about directing the other two movies, though it looks like we won’t be seeing his ideas for The Exorcist: Deceiver anytime soon.
