The Game Awards 2024 (TGA 2024) might be a celebration awarding the best video games of the year, but the event itself is certainly due an award of its own, smashing viewing records with around 154 million global live streams — a 31 percent increase compared to 2023’s iteration of the show, which garnered 118 million live streams.
This year’s show, which marked its 10th anniversary, reached a viewership high across multiple digital networks including YouTube, Twitch, Steam, TikTok Live, X/Twitter, Instagram Live and Facebook. This was further supplemented by global streaming platforms such as Bilbili, Huya, Weibo, WeChat, Douyin, Zhihu, DouYu, Baidu, NetEase CC, Tencent Video, QQ, Kuishou and HeyBox in China; CHZZK and Soop in South Korea; and NicoNico in Japan.
According to StreamCharts, Twitch, YouTube and other Western platforms had more than four million peak concurrent viewers combined, an increase of 10 percent over TGA 2023. A monumental achievement indeed, considering the event is independently hosted by gaming industry star Geoff Keighley, and does not have any exclusive deals with streaming services like other high-profile awards shows.
