Swamp Thing’s First Trailer Shows Us The Horrors To Come

An exclusive live-action series for streaming service DC Universe, it is clear from the get-go that Swamp Thing will most definitely be a horror series.

The official teaser trailer for Swamp Thing just got released today, and it is clear executive producer James Wan is sticking to his promise of bringing a dark and violent show to the DC Universe with Swamp Thing.

From the opening scene of the trailer, we’re given hints of the monstrous creature lurking in the swamp of Houma, Louisiana, as it silently stalks its unsuspecting prey. It is not long before all hell breaks loose.

The trailer also gives us our first look at Crystal Reed (Gotham) as Abby Arcane, who has returned to her home town in Louisiana to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus (which is likely the cause of the little girl fainting in the trailer). Cue lots of quick cuts interspersed with panicked screaming. Towards the end of the trailer, we also get to see the Swamp Thing, played by Derek Mears (Friday the 13th) in a practical creature suit, as it slowly lurks towards a terrified Abby.

It is also not clear yet if the Swamp Thing is part of the evil that is terrorising Houma, Louisiana, or if it is the small town’s only hope.

James Wan has been highly praised for creating several critically acclaimed horror movies in the past few years, we have high hopes for this upcoming live-action horror series.

The series is based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, with a script written by Ash vs. Evil Dead writer Mark Verheiden, and IT co-writer Gary Dauberman.

Swamp Thing premieres May 31 on DC Universe.
