Super Mario Umbrellas Keep You Dry With Classic Game Visuals

Rain and drizzle can make for a dreary affair, but that isn’t stopping Wpc, a sub-brand of umbrella maker World Party Co., from injecting a bit of fun. In collaboration with Nintendo, it has released four umbrella designs based on Super Mario Bros., the original 8-bit title that kicked off the whole franchise.

The Underwater Dot takes after the structure of World 2-2, which made its mark as the first underwater level in the game. When popped open, the umbrella shows Mario navigating past a group of familiar enemies, including the Cheep-cheep and Bloober.

The Block Border, meanwhile, features the titular character running along a brick pathway to grab coins and power-ups, before facing off against Goombas and Koopa Paratroopas.

For an added retro touch, the Logo Text and Character Dot both offer a black-and-white artwork aesthetic. The monochrome elements here are reminiscent of the visuals of the Game Boy handheld console, but they ultimately still come from the 1985 NES game.

Wpc has also set aside two parasol designs for those who want to stay in the shade: a Mario version and a Luigi alternative that according to the brand, are study enough to double up as rain umbrellas if need be.

The Super Mario Bros. umbrellas and parasols are priced at 1,980 yen (S$20.85 / US$15.20) and 3,520 yen ( S$37.10 / US$27) respectively. While they are available on Wpc’s online shop, shipping and purchase seem to only be restricted to Japanese residents. Still, we can always hope.
