The nostalgic brawler that is Streets of Rage 4 is shaping up to be even better, as DotEmu, Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games have revealed that classic characters and music from the first two games will be making an appearance in this modern offering.
In a new gameplay trailer, we get a closer look at the action awaiting in Streets of Rage 4. The game is certainly paying tribute to the original trilogy, with up to 12 unlockable characters in their pixel art glory. Each will come with their own unique movesets and abilities, just like in the old games. If you have missed the likes of Skate and Max, Streets of Rage 4 has you covered.
These 12 fighters will join the game’s own roster of five hand-animated brawlers, giving players a complete selection of 17 fighters to choose from. If that is not enough retro goodness, you can consider switching to the series’ iconic original soundtrack. Dishing out the hurt backed by the tunes of Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2 will bring back more than just fond memories. It makes for a true retro experience.
Streets of Rage 4 represents the series’ first new game in over 25 years, and blends together the classic brawler elements with fresh ideas that mix up the combat. The gorgeous hand-drawn art and updated and banging soundtrack will see players be introduced to an all-new formula built on the solid foundation of the previous games.
Streets of Rage 4 will be released this spring for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One for US$24.99.
