‘Street Fighter 6’ DLC Character Akuma Punches His Way To Spring 2024 Debut

The demon is back, and with a striking new look to boot. Akuma will be the next character to join Street Fighter 6 when Spring 2024 rolls around, becoming the 22nd playable fighter on the roster.

In a new trailer announcement, the fan favourite makes his grand entrance by punching the head of a statue clean off its shoulders. His once-red mane is now white, with a brief glimpse of Ryu likely suggesting another epic showdown between the pair.

Upon his arrival, Akuma will be available in Fighting Ground mode and is also encountered as a master in World Tour mode. Players can become his student, embark on missions, and visit his Gokuento stage along the way. Other features coming to the update accompanying his debut include new sound-related additions and Battle Hub events.

The character reveal follows the release of fellow DLC brawlers Rashid, A.K.I, and Ed, and officially marks the end of the game’s first year of content. While there’s currently no word on when the second DLC wave will be ready, director Takayuki Nakayama confirmed that work is already underway.

Street Fighter 6 has sold three million copies since its launch in June last year. The fighting title surpassed one million players within its first three days, and hit the two million sales milestone just a month after.
