Monsters have ruled over cities and clashed with each other, yet humanity keeps finding a way to stay relevant in the chaos. The MonsterVerse is expanding once again, and this time, it brings a familiar face from both classic and modern cinema. Matthew Modine, known for his performances in Full Metal Jacket and Stranger Things, has officially joined the cast of the next Godzilla vs. Kong movie, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Legendary Pictures continues to build on its monster-driven universe, with Grant Sputore set to direct the next chapter following Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Details about Modine’s role remain under wraps, though reports suggest he will portray a high-ranking general. His addition follows a trend of Stranger Things actors appearing in the MonsterVerse, with Millie Bobby Brown playing a key role in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and its sequel Godzilla vs. Kong. Modine now steps into the same universe, bringing his decades of experience in action-packed roles.

Modine joins a cast that includes Dan Stevens reprising his role as Trapper from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, alongside newcomers Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, and Delroy Lindo. Sputore’s film is expected to introduce fresh human characters while continuing the larger-than-life battles between kaiju. The screenplay is being written by Dave Callaham, whose past work includes crafting the story for Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla in 2014.

Since its launch in 2014, the MonsterVerse has continued to grow, spanning multiple films and expanding into television with Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The cinematic series has explored the idea of humanity surviving in a world where mythical monsters are real, with each installment raising the stakes. Last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire grossed over US$570 million globally, making it the highest-earning entry in the franchise. Beyond films, the MonsterVerse has extended into video games, graphic novels, toys, and immersive experiences, ensuring its presence across multiple platforms.

The next Godzilla vs. Kong film is slated for release on 26 March 2027, continuing the saga of Earth’s most legendary titans. With production moving forward, anticipation will only grow as fans await their next journey into the MonsterVerse.
