Looks like Godzilla and Kong have a new human co-star to contend with. Kaitlyn Dever, known for her standout performances in Booksmart and Dopesick, is set to enter Legendary’s MonsterVerse. as reported by Deadline. Directed by Grant Sputore (I Am Mother), the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire marks the sixth instalment in the MonsterVerse and is expected to hit theatres in 2027, where the Titans face “a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”
At the conclusion of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla was last seen resting in Rome’s Colosseum, while Kong ventured to Hollow Earth to lead a tribe of his kind, accompanied by a baby ape named Suko. This setup hints at potential storylines involving “Son of Kong”-like elements.
Sputore takes over from Adam Wingard, who directed the previous two MonsterVerse films. While Wingard had teased potential appearances from classic Kaiju like Destoroyah and Minilla, it remains unclear whether these legendary creatures will appear. What is certain is that the sequel aims to strike a better balance between the franchise’s epic monster battles and its human stories. Dever’s casting suggests a commitment to creating more emotionally resonant human arcs, a shift that could redefine the series’ approach.
Returning cast members from previous films could include Rebecca Hall as Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes, and Kaylee Hottle as Jia. Dan Stevens’ Trapper, a standout from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, may also reprise his role.

In recent years, Dever has solidified her status as one of Hollywood’s rising stars. Her performance in No One Will Save You showcased her ability to anchor a narrative almost single-handedly, making her a strong fit for a franchise aiming to elevate its human dimension. This marks another major step in her career, as she continues to take on diverse and challenging projects, including her upcoming role as Abby Anderson in HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2.
With Godzilla Minus One receiving critical acclaim and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters‘ second season on the horizon, the MonsterVerse continues to expand its reach, ensuring fans have plenty to look forward to.
