Steven Moffat ‘Pleads’ For Stars Cumberbatch and Freeman To Return For ‘Sherlock’ Season 5

Fans of the BBC/Netflix adaptation, Sherlock, have been grasping at straws for the last six years in hopes of an announcement that the hit crime series will return for a fifth season.

Screenwriter Steven Moffat has revealed that he is all for writing the much-anticipated fifth instalment of the series, even at a moment’s notice, as long as the leading duo of Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) and Martin Freeman (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) give the green light to reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson respectively.

Moffat understands that both actors are now involved in bigger projects, both currently deeply immersed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it delves into Phase 5, but that doesn’t stop the screenwriter from trying his luck anyways.

“They’re on to bigger and better things but, Martin and Benedict, please come back?” joked Moffat.

Sadly for Sherlock fans, there has not been any verified news on the return of either actor to the series.
